US Embassy London: Limited Visa Processing Summer 2012

The US Embassy London has issued a notice regarding extremely limited US Visa processing in July and August 2012 due to the Olympics in London. In addition, US Embassy London has expanded its Visa Reissuance Program to additional temporary visa categories including the H-1B visa, H-4 visa, C-1 visa, D visa, and J-1 visa. Details are below. USCIS Initiatives Promote Start-Ups, Job Creation

On August 2, 2011, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas outlined a series of policy, operational, and outreach efforts to promote start-ups. They hope this initiative will fuel the US economy and stimulate investment in the US by attracting foreign entrepreneurial talent of exceptional ability or talent who otherwise can create US jobs, form startup companies in the US, and invest capital in US areas of high unemployment. US Embassy London O-1 Visa and P Visa Reissuance Without Interview

The US Embassy London has advised that certain O-1 visa or P visa applicants who have held an O-1 visa or P visa in the past may be eligible to apply for the Visa Reissuance Program, and may obtain a new O-1 visa or P visa without an interview with a US consular officer. Criteria for eligibility are below.  Note that even if you meet the below criteria, the US Embassy London may still require you to appear for a personal interview in order for your visa to be reissued. O-1 Visa Denials Investigated

Due to an outcry by immigration practitioners, the film industry, the performing arts community and various research institutions, in the summer of 2010, USCIS has been investigating O-1 visa and P visa denials and requests for further evidence (RFEs), which have increased dramatically over the past 18 months. USCIS California Service Center (CSC) denial rates for O-1 visa petitions have increased from 9.6% in 2008 to 19.6% in 2010. Similarly, O-1 visa RFEs have increased from 16.2% in 2008 to 37.5% in 2010. (more…)
